It’s so easy to get caught up in new strategies in business especially when our current ones are not working as well as we would like.

But, before you decide to throw the baby out with the bathwater and follow another shiny new object I want you to take a moment to consider your energy.

I’m always saying “You can’t manage time, you can only manage energy”

Believe me, I have LOTS of time management books on my bookshelves and although I’ve learned a few tips and tricks over the years, you still only have 24 hours in a day, just the same as everyone else!

When we feel energised we are more focused and more productive. When we feel tired or drained it’s often because we are bored, distracted or are having to “push on through” to achieve the tasks in hand.

So what’s the difference? What makes us feel more energised?

It’s doing things that play to our strengths. Each and everyone of us has talent and genius within but as Albert Einstein said

“If you judge a fish by it’s ability to climb a tree it will spend its whole life believing it is stupid!”

When we play to our strengths, we find find things easier. It’s like we are flowing downstream rather than trying to swim against the current. We can do things a lot faster and usually we enjoy the tasks more too.

Now I’m not saying you can just ditch everything you hate to do, at least not until you can delegate or outsource them. However, I always help my clients to align their business model and marketing strategies with their talent dynamic.

Of course, in the short term you can always ride the wave of success on a new social media platform or using new technology, especially as an early adopter. But, in the longer term, doing what you enjoy and that lights you up will make your business more fun, more sustainable and more successful.

So let me ask you Karen, are the strategies you’re choosing in your business fun?

Or are you doing them because you think you should?
